If you are a United States citizen who frequently travels internationally, then you may want to enroll in STEP (Smart Traveller Enrollment Program)! STEP is a free service (provided by the government) that will alert you about any other the current safety conditions of a future trip. Even if you do not plan on traveling any time soon, you will still receive alerts. I think this is great because when you sign up, you will have information about your closest United States Embassy. When enrolled, if something happens to you abroad (God forbid), the Embassy will be able to notify your family and friends.
