My Review of the W Costa Rica (Playa Conchal)

Posted on February 11, 2022January 25, 2022 by Angela H

I flew into Liberia, Costa Rica. The airport is called LIR. I highly suggest flying into this airport over San Jose, Costa Rica as Liberia airport is about an hour and a half away! Before I begin, I want to mention that all of this is in USD.

If you are legit looking for a getaway, staycation, or even a vacation, THIS IS YOUR PLACE!

Cost: $85 USD one way from Liberia, Costa Rica.

Transportation Company

Fayla Tours and Transfers (My driver’s name was Chris). A++++ If you pay in advance, they can send you a Paypal invoice or you will have to pay in cash (USD). This was the BEST price I could find! If you book directly with W, you will pay about $140 USD/PP. I booked this transportation the same day and they were so accommodating!

On my way to the hotel, Chris was so nice and informed me about Costa Rica, recommendations, tours, etc! He was great! He was the first to inform me that I made a great decision by booking this hotel! The ride was a bit bumpy (as expected) but Chris was a really great driver!

Entrance!

When I arrived at The W, I just knew I was going to have a great time. They sanitized my baggage and walked me right over to the concierge. The lobby is BREATHTAKING! It was a unique experience. I initially booked the partial ocean view, but was upgraded to the ocean view! I arrived around 2:00 pm and the room was ready.

The resort is HUGE! Luckily, they have free carts that will take you where you need to go. If you do not see one, you can have an associate call one for you!

But first, a nice, refreshing welcome drink!

It was a nice house-blended tea beverage!

This is the entrance to the Ocean View Suites:

These resort grounds are very clean!
Room Name : Wonderful King size bed with ocean view
Balcony with optional outdoor shower!
Optional outdoor shower!

So nice and spacious!

The room is hidden in the mangroves of Guanacaste. The decor was very modern, yet I still felt like an authentic wildlife experience. I heard all types of animals at night.

Food:

W Playa Conchal does offer an all-inclusive package but I did not get it. If I am not mistaken, It does not include alcoholic beverages. Everything here from the beverages and food was TOP SHELF. All good quality food! Meats, vegetables, drinks, a fruit everything was FRESH and good quality! I have had my fair share of hotel food and this definitely meets my top five!

I had not ONE bad food experience here! The food is definitely culinary-inspired and does not lack at all! Every drink I ordered was very consistent and was the best-mixed drink I have EVER had in my LIFE! The staff even remembered my favorite drink orders! Beverages like tea, the juice is about $7 USD. Alcoholic beverages range between $18-25 USD.

The buffet is $39/PP per day, but if you add it when you are booking your hotel (which I highly recommend), it is much cheaper (Mine came up to be $19/PP per day when I booked it). The Buffett did have an omelet station but I really liked how they changed the food daily. Crepes one day, the next pancakes. Very unique and kept breakfast exciting!

THE BEST BREAKFAST BUFFET was Delicious!!! Very fresh.
Pool side wings!
House made bread. To DIE FOR@
Chicken wings! Request all of the sauces. They were mouth watering!
One stole one of my pieces of bacon off of my plate! lol

I did eat at a different place every night so I could review it here. The pool food was A++++. I am quite picky so take that into consideration. To the seasonings to the sauces. Chef’s kiss!

Activities

I went horseback riding. When you go to the main beach, you will see a lot of vendors selling activities. I booked a horseback riding for $45 USD. The tour was about two hours and we all rode the horses on the beach and through different parts of the area. It was a really fun experience!

Also, I got a massage on the beach for one hour and it cost me $25 USD. The resort does have a spa but I wanted to support the locals. The spa at the W is about $200 USD per person, per hour.

The Hotel does have a car service that can take you off of the resort. I ended up going to Tamarindo beach and it costs $45 per person round trip. You can book this by visiting the front desk.

The private shuttle van booked through The W! The van was sterilized before and after you sit!
Dinner at La Palapa in Tamarindo

They have a few different pools on the premises. Some are adult only (The Wet Deck). They have pool parties every day from 3:00 pm-5:00 pm.

The resort does have a gift shop just in case you left something!

Solo or for couples?

During my stay, I saw solo travelers, couples, and families! I think this is a great place for anyone! I was solo and one of my friends came to visit for a few days so It was perfect! The ambiance is perfect for anyone! Even the guests were nice and I spoke to quite a few of them.

Final Thoughts

This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I felt like I was in the wildlife but what modern amenities! I think that is what made this experience so unique to me. I have never stayed at a hotel like this before in my LIFE! Surprisingly, I did not have any issues with mosquitos or bug bites.

Over the course of staying here for a week, I spent over $4500 (including the hotel). When you check out, you will get your bill and when I did the calculations, I spent about $100 per day on food and beverages. I would not recommend coming here if you want to be on a budget. I lucked up and booked this hotel in November when the rainy season stops but nevertheless, it is still a chance of rain. Hence why I was able to get the hotel room for about $390/night (not including breakfast, resort fees). It did rain twice but it only lasted for about five minutes and it was such a beautiful experience! Even the locals told me I was lucky because it’s such a gamble with the weather, especially the first week of November. I have read others say that they got completely rained out! I am so glad that I took the risk because the weather was BEAUTIFUL. It was hot and sunny so definitely bring sunscreen!

Personally, this hotel I have noticed gets a lot of stars deducted not because of the experience, but the cost of the food! You are staying at The W so personally, it was expected! This is a five-star chain. Costa Rica also gets everything imported so you are going to spend more. I will definitely be returning!

You all know, I love a good deal! I love this resort enough to come even during peak prices. Why? Because it was such a unique experience. One my way leaving, Chef Marie packed me a to-go bag full of my favorite pastries. I thought that was so sweet of her….She legit remembered the day I was departing. The staff said their goodbyes and you can tell that it was genuine…

Despite my wallet feeling empty, It was worth every PENNY. I cannot reemphasize that enough. It was all worth it. I surely miss waking up to the ocean view. But I will be returning. I know, I know I keep mentioning this hotel and how unique the experience was but it is!

The food. The staff. the environment. Everything was MAGICAL. This place literally felt like heaven on earth…Definitely in my top five..W Costa Rica has a piece of my heart now.

My last morning…Such a beautiful view.

I truly hope all of my readers visit W Costa Rica one day and truly experience this once in a life time experience. <3
